“The UAE has taken a leading role in creating a culture that supports and endorses women artists’ and their expression, making the UAE a hub for emerging artists in the Middle East. What we see today is a translation of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai”, said H.H. Sh. Manal.
One of the artists who has also participated at the exhibition in New York and who's work I find very interesting and inspiring is young Emirati artist Maitha Hilal Bin Demithan, she is producing her work in scanography. In 2009 Demithan's first scanography series of self portraits titled Documentation, was exhibited at studio and gallery Tashkeel, Dubai, UAE.

In her own words:
I use an A4 flatbed scanner. The images are scanned individually, then reconstructed digitally in Photoshop. The idea behind this particular work evolved from the process. The human figure has always been of interest to me, and this unusual way of looking at it, especially with the absence of depth of field and 3D form, I have found it to be like a form of documentation, as if the figure was a document. Without depth of field is like a form of documentation, as if the figure was just a document.
I feel that the deconstruction and reconstruction processes in To the Moon are a reflection of my journeys, my own personal struggles to understand my state of being and my place and role in this world.
Members of my family wearing everyday traditional clothes feature in my compositions and To the Moon is the third in my scanned portraits series.
My nephew was present when I was scanning my niece, and he wanted to be part of it. I thought it would be great to try to create a piece with two figures. And because I can’t include myself in the works, I included a silver pendant that I made – the girl is holding it in her hand. She is also wearing my clothes.
